Medicare Part D is prescription drug coverage, and it’s one of the areas where the right choice saves the most money.
How Part D works
Part D plans are sold by private insurers. Each plan has a formulary — its list of covered drugs, organized into pricing tiers. The same medication can cost very different amounts depending on the plan, which is why matching your specific prescriptions to the right formulary matters so much.
The $2,100 cap
Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, your out-of-pocket for covered Part D drugs is capped at $2,100 per year. Once you hit it, you pay nothing more for covered drugs that year. Estimate your spend with our drug cost calculator.
Avoiding the late penalty
If you go without creditable drug coverage after you’re first eligible, you can owe a permanent Part D late penalty — 1% of the national base premium for each month you waited. Even if you take few medications, a low-cost plan now usually beats the penalty later. Estimate it with our Part D penalty tool.
How we find your plan
Bring your prescription list. We compare it against the Part D plans available in Grand County — drug by drug, tier by tier, including your preferred Moab-area pharmacy — to find your lowest total annual cost. It’s free.
